Frans & Meg Gerber
The owners of the Forest Ferns Estate are Frans and Meg Gerber. Since 1986 they have developed their 109 hectare farm from a neglected timber plantation with no access road, to a magnificent export, nursery and tourist facility. They began their adventure by establishing an export company for the supply of cut ferns and foliage to the European flower markets.
Due to the interest shown by people to visit the packing facility they then created the tranquil Fernery with its lovely display of indigenous ferns and excellent restaurant. Bordering the Tsitsikamma National Park with enchanting views of the rugged coastline, river gorge and surrounding plantations, the Estate was perfectly situated to become a retreat for people seeking peace and luxury in a magnificent setting. The result was 8 charming chalets that are also used for the final night accommodation of hikers on the luxury Dolphin Hiking Trail and then the awe-inspiring Fernery Lodge that is built overlooking a 30 metre waterfall and the wild Indian Ocean.
